Protecting Their Right to Vote

The past few days have seen a massive mobilization of Catalans working to ensure that the October 1st Referendum will happen. The local schools that will serve as voting precincts have held events and activities all weekend long. There have been games of chess, yoga classes, family dinners, information sessions, speakers, dances and a general positive, happy and peaceful spirit that this independence movement is known for. Groups of volunteers kept watch overnight and more volunteers got up before dawn to protect the buildings from the outside to ensure that the police cannot take over the precincts and prevent a vote. The doors are set to open at 9am to begin this historic independence referendum.
